Arts & Culture

Brevens Bruk is a melting pot of different types of art and culture. Check out the historic buildings that show how the ironworks worked or experience art in different ways inside and outside.

The mass and roasting oven

A blast furnace and a roasting oven were built in the 1820s at Brevens Bruk. The roasting oven was used for roasting ore in a blast furnace. The roasting was done to remove moisture and make the ore more brittle. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was time for a modernization of the mill. The blast furnace was rebuilt in 1903 and a completely new roasting oven was built in 1905.
Unlike other parts of Bergslagen, there were no mines here, but the ore was transported here from, among other places, Utö outside Nynäshamn. The mill was known for its fine castings. Among other things, the Djurgårdsbron in Stockholm was cast here.

The roasting oven has become one of Brevens Bruk’s most famous buildings with its octagonal roof, and there you can take guided tours or participate in various events at certain times. Friends of the Rostugnen is a non-profit organization that started in 2009 with the intention of renovating and preserving the old Rostugnen in the middle of Brevens Bruk. The Rostugnen is open year-round.

The Model house

Modellboden – Sweden’s newest working life museum. The extensive collection of wooden models is unique. Here are casting models that have been stored for a hundred years and give a good picture of the old ironworks’ production. Views for groups by appointment. Konstiga rundan

A group of people have created different and interesting works that are displayed along the 6.5-kilometer long trail around Lake Botaren in Brevens Bruk every summer. Along the road there are nice places to have coffee. It is open each year from June to September.

The Mill Museum

Check out the old granary that was built in 1786! The museum shows the production from the old ironworks and you will find old plaster and wooden models, cast iron products and large window arches.

The mill was known for its fine castings. Among other things, the Djurgårdsbron in Stockholm was cast here.

It is open all year round and is located right behind the Brevens Bruk AB office. Ask for a card key to the door at Brevens Bruk AB, Brevensgården Pub & Restaurang or at Brevens Café & Butik.

The Art Gallery

The art gallery in the old power station mainly displays artwork from artists connected to Brevens bruk. Every year there is a new theme and the art gallery is open every Sunday from May to September.
